The Cathedral of Ávila

The Cathedral of Ávila is a Gothic cathedral located in Ávila, a city in the autonomous community of Castilla y León, Spain. The Cathedral of Ávila is the first Gothic cathedral in Spain. It shows French influence and bears some resemblance to the first Gothic church, the Abbey Church of Saint-Denis. The Gothic Cathedral of Ávila was built between the 12th and 14th centuries and has the appearance of a fortress, a defensive wall and a fortified tower. The first stage of the bell tower and the gallery were completed in the 13th century and the second stage of the bell tower, the cloister, the vaulting and the flying buttresses were completed in the 14th century.
